SKELETAL REMAINS

The West Pier was the 2nd pier constructed in Brighton in 1866. Until its closure in the 1970s it was a popular destination for holidaymakers. Falling into disrepair after the closure, it partially collapsed in a storm in late 2002 and the remaining structure was destroyed beyond repair in two instances of arson in early 2003.
